The piezoelectric buzzer is the versatile sound generator that is mainly used in electronic circuits to create audio warning. In most of the electronic devices, it is commonly used as alarm. It is a lightweight and low power consuming electric component. Different sizes and frequency level makes it compatible with several applications.
Working of the Piezo Buzzer Alarm:
Mostly it is available as a circular shaped metal plate with a tiny Piezo material coating. Lead Zirconate Titanate is the commonly used piezo-material as it has both Direct and Indirect piezoelectric characteristics.
Inductor, a transistor, capacitors and resistors forms Oscillator circuit inside the buzzer. The transistor and inductor oscillates fed to the Piezo crystals after the circuit gets 3 to 12 volt DC. The crystals and the plate start to vibrate according to the applied frequency. The plate vibrates freely as its rim is glued to the plastic case. In an average, the oscillation measured between 2 – 4 kHz in the Piezo buzzer. The sharp sound generated as it poses maximum in this frequency.
Modern Use of Piezoelectric Buzzer:
Most of the piezoelectric manufacturers produce various kinds of buzzers. Currently in the market there are over thousand specifications available. To make it more convenient, suppliers are taking orders for customized length of pins and wires. The following factors considered differently for each requirement.
• Operating Voltage
• Power Consumption
• Driving Method
• Connecting Way
• Sound Pressure Level
• Dimension of the Element
Ranging from automobile to consumer electronics product manufacturers all are now using piezo buzzer alarm extensively.
